John Deacon is a retired English musician, who is best remembered as the bass guitarist of the hugely successful rock band Queen from 1971 to 1997. After ‘s death in 1991, he stopped performing with the band and only continued collaborating with members and on financial matters.

- He is credited with writing many hit singles for the band like You’re My Best Friend (1975), I Want to Break Free (1984), Another One Bites the Dust (1980), Spread Your Wings (1977), etc.
- In 2013, a newly discovered species of damselfly (of the genus Heteragrion, Odonata: Zygoptera) was named Heteragrion johndeaconi after him.
- John is the only member of the group who has not sung in any of the band’s records.
- He used his electrical engineer background to build an electric guitar amplifier, famously known as the ‘Deacy Amp’. The instrument, formed with discarded parts, was used throughout Queen‘s recording career.
- He was very close to Freddie Mercury. After Mercury’s death in November 1991, John fell into a depression and retired from the band in 1997.
- John was conspicuously absent when Queen was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
- He was played by actor in the band’s biographical drama, Bohemian Rhapsody in 2018.
