Misha B Facts
- From the time that Misha was 3 months old, she and her older sister Monique were raised by their maternal aunt Lily. Misha’s parents had parted ways just after her birth and she was estranged from her mother, who was a drug addict. She had revealed in an interview that she looked up to Lily as her mother although she did not hold any grudges against her biological mother.
- A multi-faceted talent as a youngster, she used to play soccer for the Manchester United Under-16 girls’ team while she was at Trinity C.E. High School in Hulme, Manchester. She had also undergone vocal training from the age of 14 as she felt that music was the best outlet to vent her frustration and improve self-understanding. She would often write poetry, rap, and perform her compositions at local events.
- At the age of 18, she had started participating in Manchester’s open mic circuit and would often perform busking (public performance for gratuities) outside Manchester’s Arndale Centre. She later revealed that she would do this less for earning money and more for learning how to get over her stage fright.
- For her breakthrough performances in 2012, she was nominated in the category of ‘Best Newcomer’ at the 2012 MOBO (Music of Black Origin) Awards, ‘Best Breakthrough Artist’ at the 2012 4music Video Honours, and ‘Best Female Artist of 2012’ at the 2013 Official Mixtape Awards.
- In 2013, she had supported an initiative by The Children’s Society that sought to address the issues of poverty and neglect faced by thousands of vulnerable children and youngsters in the Greater Manchester area. Later that year, she had designed a cushion for the annual charity event of BBC Children in Need.
