Monica Wright is an American basketball coach and former professional basketball player who was picked 2nd overall in the 2010 WNBA (Women’s National Basketball Association) Draft by the Minnesota Lynx. She was named in the WNBA All-Rookie Team that year and played for the Lynx until 2015, winning the WNBA championship twice (2011, 2013). She was traded to the Seattle Storm in mid-2015 but her playing career came to an abrupt end in 2016 as a troublesome knee required 4 surgeries which forced her to retire from the sport. Monica later took up coaching assignments, as an assistant, with Liberty University (2018–2019) and the University of Virginia (2019–Present). At the international level, representing the United States, she had captained the ‘Gold’ medal-winning team at the FIBA (Fédération Internationale de Basketball) Under-19 World Championship in 2007. She had averaged 9.8 points per game there and led her team in ‘steals’.
