He was raised as a Roman Catholic and he even served as an altar boy for three years. Coming to his siblings, he has a sister, Clolita Williams, and a brother, Herman Williams.

Montel has worked as an actor in various films as well. He appeared in three episodes of the legal drama TV series, “JAG”. In 1996, he served as the star and the producer of the drama TV series, “Matt Waters”. The following year, in 1997, he starred in the action film, “The Peacekeeper”. He most recently appeared in an episode of the drama series, “The Resident” in 2019.

In 2008, he also served as the producer and the narrator of the documentary film, “4CHOSEN: The Documentary”. Montel is a successful director as well having directed the 1999 film, “Little Pieces”.
