After his second divorce, he stayed single for five years. Later in 1996, he began dating another woman named Blythe Weber, and in 1997 the couple welcomed their daughter whom they named Senna, he met Blythe Weber while she was working at River North Records/Platinum Entertainment. Senna is now a hit singer. After staying in the relationship for ten years, they broke up. After that, to date, Cetera did not date or marry anyone else. In 1981, Cetera introduced his first solo album for which he personally bought the rights from his previous contract with Columbia Records who denied releasing the albums. But that was an utter failure for which he said that he wasn’t promoted enough. The year 1982 marked as a come-back for the Chicago 16 with David Foster as their new producer and Cetera as lead singer.

With the success of his solo performance, Cetera decided to record another solo album as he was not interested in travelling extensively with the band. After leaving Chicago, he continued to achieve success by releasing many hits.

In November 2019, in a podcast interview with Mark Pattison, he declared his retirement and said that he wanted to retire since a long time before he loses his voice as he is tired of all the travelling and the hectic life, he said that he wanted to “learn how to be an out-of-work singer”.
