Shannyn Sossamon is an American actress, director, and musician who is best known for starring in films such as A Knight’s Tale (2001), 40 Days and 40 Nights (2002), and The Rules of Attraction (2002). From 2004 to 2008, she had played drums for and provided backing vocals to the indie rock band Warpaint but had led the group abruptly after recording their debut EP titled Exquisite Corpse (2009). Later that year, she had started directing and producing short films and music videos by creating a production company called Maudegone Theater.

1. Shannyn, born in Honolulu, Hawaii, was raised by her mother primarily in Reno, Nevada after her parents had got divorced when she was 5 years old. Consequently, she had taken her mother’s surname as her last name instead of her father’s.
2. She had replaced the letter ‘o’ with the letter ‘y’ in her birthname of Shannon in 1995, the year of her high school graduation.
3. In 1999, she was assisting a friend who was working as a DJ for actress and her younger brother Jake’s joint birthday party (the siblings have a birthday just 1 day apart). It was at that event that she was discovered by casting director Francine Maisler who was then casting for the starring role in the medieval adventure comedy film titled A Knight’s Tale (2001). It became Shannyn’s first feature film and a breakthrough in her acting career.
