Vasek Pospisil Facts

1. In 1988, 6 years before Vasek’s birth, his family unlawfully crossed into Austria from the then-Czechoslovakia borders to escape the communist regime there. In 1989, when they had saved enough money, they moved to Canada to start their lives afresh.
2. A child prodigy, he participated in his first tournament, an Under-12 event, at the age of just 6 and won it. In 2002, he won the prestigious Prince Cup, where he defeated some of the best Under-12 plays from all over Europe.
3. At the junior Grand Slam level, he reached the doubles semifinal at the 2008 French Open and the doubles final at both the 2007 US Open and the 2008 Australian Open.
4. In August 2010, he competed in the doubles main draw of the Rogers Cup as a wild card. He partnered with for the event and they defeated the pair of and in the 1st round. This was Vasek’s first win in the main draw of an ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) event.
